AFTA Updates: A Message from the Board of Directors
The 2026 Board of Directors is working on an updated strategic plan to carry AFTA's mission into the future of Agroforestry. The mission of AFTA is to promote the wider adoption of agroforestry by landowners in temperate regions of North America. Formed in 1991, the Association for Temperate Agroforestry Inc. (AFTA) is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization based at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry at Columbia.
The Board is actively working to secure a location for the 2027 North American Agroforestry Conference (NAAC) and begin the planning process. The call for hosts will remain open until August 31st. If your university or organization is interested in hosting, please send and inquiry email to northamericanagroforestry@gmail.com.
We're expanding our international reach! The AFTA board recently voted to become a member of the International Union for Agroforestry. We're currently exploring opportunities to synergize membership and provide opportunity for AFTA members to participate. We'll have more details in the coming months.
AFTA members are invited to submit abstracts and attend the upcoming 2026 International Conference on Agricultural Sciences (ICAS 2026): Agroecology and Sustainable Systems, to be held October 21–23, 2026, in Bologna, Italy. The conference will bring together experts from across the agricultural sciences to share advances in agroecology, regenerative and sustainable farming systems, soil health, crop management, precision agriculture, pest management, and agricultural economics. Abstract submissions are open through August 3, 2026, with opportunities for both oral and poster presentations.
